The River
On a swift summer night Springsteen played for me and my girl
So that's what we did:
Went down to the River,
swam and laughed under a low starlight
With soft white towels we dried each other's skin
Made it to a mountaintop and waited for the safe morning sun rise
Those were so many years ago;
Now I stand by The River and sing Springsteen alone
Dry myself under a fading sunrise

That is beautiful.

I love "under a low starlight" and the first line is wonderful too.

Nice writing.

Oh for the sunshine of youth. As each year passes, I feel it fade away.

This is a lovely and honest piece of writing. It says so much so simply, like the best poetry. :-)

oh goodness, so bittersweet. Your poem pulls me in with such wonder and romance, and in the end, my heart falls, and wonders 'why'??

Wonderful poem :)

Square Corner, a bit of nostalgia here. I am a lover of Springsteen and can picture everything you are saying. Springsteen music still moves me!

SC, this post resonates with me. Maybe the best is yet to come? For now, we're just Dancing in the Dark.

Beautiful memory, and then the poignant image of you singing Springsteen alone. "Dry myself under a fading sunrise." Wow.

Wow, this is really incredibly good. From a fellow Springsteen fan, I love it. Think you captured his essence and managed to strike your own spin on it very well.
